Staff Involvement Programs

Amgen recognizes the importance of giving back to our local communities.  Each year, thousands of Amgen staff generously devote their personal time, energy, talents and funds to a variety of charitable organizations nationwide.  Amgen encourages staff to become involved in their local communities through Amgen Volunteers and the Matching Gift Program.

Amgen Volunteers

Amgen Volunteers helps staff members find local volunteer opportunities, earn monetary support for their favorite charitable organizations and receive recognition for their outstanding work in our communities.

The Amgen Volunteers website lets Amgen staff members search a robust database of opportunities by interests, skills offered and geography. The site is also a place to promote and feature volunteering in Amgen’s communities and with nonprofit organizations the Amgen Foundation supports.

The annual Amgen Excellence in Volunteering Awards recognize outstanding staff volunteers who are making a difference in their local communities with a $5,000 award paid to the nonprofit where the winning staff members volunteer.

The Amgen Foundation also supports staff volunteer efforts by providing Volunteer Services Grants to eligible nonprofit organizations. Every 15 hours volunteered by Amgen staff qualifies the organization for a $500 Volunteer Service Grant from the Amgen Foundation.  Each additional hour of service after the initial 15 hours with the same organization can yield further grants, up to an annual maximum of $2,000 per full-time staff member and $1,000 annual maximum per part-time staff member.

Amgen Volunteers is available to regular full and part-time staff at all of Amgen’s sites in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Matching Gift Program

Established in 1993, the Amgen Matching Gift Program has provided individual staff members the opportunity to increase their monetary donations to their favorite, eligible charitable organization. The Foundation matches every dollar donated by an Amgen staff member in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, from $50 to a cumulative total of $20,000 annually, to eligible nonprofit organizations.  Staff can also donate any publicly traded stock to an eligible nonprofit organization and have it matched by the Amgen Foundation.

To date, the Foundation has matched $26 million in staff donations, resulting in nearly $53 million of support to worthy organizations. In 2010 alone, more than 10,000 gifts were made by Amgen staff members; including the Foundation match, the community received more than $6 million to support their good work. By matching donations from individual staff members, the Amgen Foundation has made a positive impact for thousands of outstanding nonprofit organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
