Amgen Staff Give Generously to Haiti Relief Efforts; Company's $2 Million Donation Goes to Four Nonprofits

As of Feb. 12, Amgen staff contributions coupled with matches from the company and the Amgen Foundation total more than $450,000. Thanks to our staff’s continued generosity, this total is growing rapidly.

These matching gift contributions are in addition to the $2 million Amgen has already donated to Haitian relief efforts to be allocated evenly among the American Red Cross, International Medical Corps, Direct Relief International and UNICEF.

Please see below for additional detail on the recipient organizations and updates on their work in Haiti:

  • American Red Cross: As the nation’s premier emergency response organization and a global responder to devastating natural disasters, thousands of ARC volunteers are in Haiti providing for basic needs and helping the injured.

  • International Medical Corps: International Medical Corps is bringing emergency health care, nutrition, water, sanitation, and other vital health services to those in urgent need as well as training local medical students and health workers to perform basic, lifesaving procedures.

  • Direct Relief International: Direct Relief International is providing medical assistance to improve the quality of life for earthquake victims by strengthening the in-country health efforts and providing essential material resources such as medicines, supplies and equipment.

  • UNICEF: UNICEF has deployed critical supplies to Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas to assist with recovery efforts; the organization has begun efforts to reunite boys and girls who have become separated from their families and, as the recovery efforts continue, will be there to help children and their families rebuild.
