Recombinant DNA technology has been the backbone of Amgen's success. While scientists continue to refine the techniques of recombinant DNA, new methods are also being developed that hold promise for second- and third-generation biotechnology products.

In the last several years, we have seen explosive growth in our understanding of the processes of cellular growth and differentiation. We hope these advances will yield new products for the treatment of a variety of diseases. In addition, our knowledge of protein and DNA structure has expanded, creating new classes of therapeutic molecules with unique capabilities.
