We have historically reported on the fuel use and carbon emitted by our vehicle fleet in the United States. In 2019, we again expanded our reporting to include the fuel use and carbon emitted by our global sales fleets, reflecting approximately 100 percent of our total fleet. We’ve made progress in reducing carbon emissions from our fleet and are on track to maintain these reductions through the end of 2020 to meet our target.
We set standards for the average fuel efficiency of vehicles that we introduce into our U.S. sales fleet each year. To manage these fleet vehicles, we partner with an outside vendor that offers a range of tools to track vehicle performance and fuel efficiency. Additionally, we coach staff members to drive in more fuel-efficient ways.
We are working to increase the overall fuel efficiency of fleet vehicles to maintain our target performance. The overall performance of our fleet at the end of 2018 was 29 miles per gallon (MPG). We are on track to maintain the overall fuel efficiency to achieve our 2020 target.
In 2018, we further expanded data from sales fleets outside of the U.S. to provide a more complete picture of corporate carbon emissions from the company’s global sales fleet.
