Janine Tom is a Process Development Senior Scientist at Amgen in Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies. She joined Amgen in 2017 and is part of the Pivotal and Commercial Synthetics group, which works on late stage synthetic assets. At Amgen, she has worked on synthetic and hybrid modality programs, including traditional small molecule, antibody-drug conjugate and siRNA modalities. She was part of the drug substance team that was awarded the Operations Innovation Award in 2019. Her work in the hybrid molecule space also includes involvement in the ACS Green Chemistry Roundtable Peptide and Oligonucleotide subgroups and the European Pharmaceutical Oligonucleotide Consortium. Additionally, she is on the leadership team for the Amgen Women in Chemistry group and is an active member in the Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry group, promoting diversity and inclusion.
Prior to Amgen, she received her B.S. in Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara and obtained her PhD in Chemistry from UC Irvine, where she developed synthetic chemical tools to probe the innate immune response for vaccine development.
