Amgen has earned a perfect score of 100% on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) staff. The CEI is administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization.
“A top score highlights our commitment to ensuring that Amgen is a workplace where everyone feels valued and able to maximize their potential, particularly our LGBTQ staff,” said Eric Dziedzic (director, Human Resources).
In the past two years, Amgen has implemented several key actions to create a more inclusive workplace:
- Amgen offices across the United States (Thousand Oaks, San Francisco, Rhode Island and Massachusetts) replaced shared restroom signs in public areas like lobbies to read “gender neutral,” reflecting more inclusive language.
- We added transgender benefits to the benefits package and developed guidelines for staff who are transitioning in the workplace, which includes a proposed transition plan.
- We’ve included definitions and scenarios in training that clearly states that our non-discrimination policy includes gender identity and sexual orientation.
Amgen is among 609 major businesses in the United States to earn a top score for 2018 and among 230 of the Fortune 500. The survey underscores Amgen’s role among big cap companies in leading progress toward equality in the workplace and is an essential indicator when recruiting and retaining LGBTQ staff.
