Amgen Foundation Donates to Relief Efforts in Türkiye and Syria Following Earthquake

Amgen CEO Bob Bradway: “Heartbreaking to see the scenes of devastation emerging”

Following the devastating earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, the Amgen Foundation is making a combined $1 million donation to Direct Relief, International Medical Corps, and Heart-to-Heart International. Amgen Türkiye is donating 1 million Turkish liras to AFAD, a local relief agency operated by the Turkish government. The Amgen Foundation has also established a dollar-for-dollar matching gift program for employees to support reputable relief agencies. All Amgen employees are accounted for. The below communication was sent to all employees from Amgen CEO Bob Bradway.

Dear Colleagues,

It has been absolutely heartbreaking to see the scenes of devastation emerging from Türkiye and Syria this week. While Amgen has no direct presence in Syria, we do have approximately 180 staff in Türkiye and many other staff around the world with family and friends in the region. Our roots in Türkiye run deep. Amgen established a Turkish affiliate in 2010 and in 2012, we acquired Gensenta Pharma, one of the country’s leading biopharmaceutical companies, which we divested last year. In 2021, Amgen earned a “Great Place to Work” designation in Türkiye, ranking among the country’s ten best workplaces.

I am pleased to share that the Amgen Foundation is making a combined $1 million donation to Direct Relief, International Medical Corps, and Heart-to-Heart International. In addition, Amgen Türkiye is donating 1 million Turkish liras to AFAD, a local relief agency operated by the Turkish government.

Additionally, we will do everything we can to ensure that patients in the region – including those in Amgen-sponsored clinical trials – continue to have access to the medicines they need.

Please keep our Turkish colleagues in your thoughts. This will not be a quick or easy recovery and they will need our ongoing support.

Robert A. Bradway
